We love seeing our clients and pets, but our favorite time to see you is for your pets vaccinations and wellness visits!
Pets today are living longer, healthier lives — thanks in large part to vaccines that protect them from dangerous infectious diseases. Vaccination has helped virtually eliminate many fatal illnesses that once claimed the lives of countless pets.
But while vaccines are now routine, infectious diseases still pose serious risks to unvaccinated pets.
Not All Pets Need the Same Vaccines
Every pet is unique — and so is their vaccine plan. At Grand Oaks Pet Hospital, we tailor our vaccination recommendations to your pet’s:
Age, Breed, Health Status, Life Style and Environment, Travel and Boarding, and risk of Diabetes.
Some vaccines are considered core — meaning they’re recommended for all pets due to how dangerous or widespread the disease is.
Others are non-core, and may be advised based on your pet’s individual risk factors.
Core Vaccines for Dogs
These protect against serious, highly contagious, or fatal diseases:
Rabies
DAPP (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza)
Core Vaccines for Cats
Rabies
FVRCP (Panleukopenia, Calicivirus, Herpesvirus)
Non-Core (Lifestyle-Based) Vaccines
These may be recommended depending on your pet's activities, travel habits, and environment:
Dogs
Bordetella (“kennel cough”) – for dogs that board, groom, or socialize with other dogs
Leptospirosis – for dogs exposed to wildlife, puddles, or standing water
Lyme Disease – for dogs in tick-prone areas or who hike/camp
Canine Influenza – for dogs that attend daycare or events with many other dogs
Cats
Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) – especially important for outdoor cats or kittens in multi-cat homes
