Anal Gland Expression

  • Location: Two small sacs at roughly the 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock positions just inside the anus.

  • Function: They produce a strong-smelling secretion used for scent marking and identification.

  • Normal process: These sacs usually empty naturally when the animal defecates or becomes excited.

When Expression Is Needed

Anal glands may need to be expressed manually when they:

  • Don’t empty naturally, become impacted (thick material gets stuck), Become infected or abscessed, Cause discomfort (scooting, licking the rear, tail-chasing, or pain when sitting)

Aftercare

Some pets may have temporary soreness or irritation.

Behavioral

Your pet’s behavior shapes every moment you share — from mealtime to playtime, and even those quiet moments on the couch. When behavior problems arise, they can impact the entire family dynamic and put the bond you share at risk. In severe cases, unresolved behavior issues can sadly lead to surrender or euthanasia.

Blood Pressure Monitoring

A blood pressure check in pets is performed using a non-invasive method with a specialized cuff. A cuff is placed on a limb or tail and inflated to briefly stop blood flow, with the pressure then released until the return of blood flow is detected to get a reading. Some conditions can cause high blood pressure in pets, so regular monitoring is recommended for senior pets and those with potential underlying issues.

dental care - oral surgery

dental care - oral surgery

“Pet breath” isn’t just unpleasant, it’s often a sign of dental disease. Bad breath is caused by bacteria that lead to plaque and tartar buildup on your pet’s teeth. Left untreated, this can cause red, swollen gums, discomfort while chewing, drooling, and even loose or missing teeth.

While dental treats and chews can help, they’re not always enough to keep plaque and tartar under control. That’s where we come in.

Dental health plays a major role in your pet’s overall well-being. In fact, untreated dental disease has been linked to serious conditions such as heart, liver, and kidney disease. That’s why regular dental checkups are so important. Not sure if your pet’s mouth is healthy? We can help. A quick visual exam can identify early signs of dental problems. Even if your pet’s teeth look fine, we’re here to help keep them that way. With consistent dental care, you can protect your pet from pain, infection, and more serious health issues down the road.

Diabetes Management

There is no reason your pet cannot live a full and happy life with Diabetes. Diabetes is a result of a shortage of insulin. During digestion, carbohydrates in your pets food are converted into various sugars, including glucose. Glucose is absorbed into the blood and provides energy to the body's cells. Glucose cannot enter most cells without insulin. Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas. When the pancreas produces little or no insulin, glucose cannot enter the body's cells and accumulates in the blood, resulting in Diabetes.

Intact females should be spayed to remove a source of progesterone which can interfere with the normal action of insulin. Diet plays a big part in managing diabetes, be sure to ask friends and family not to give treats.

Make sure your pet is getting enough exercise and has access to plenty of clean water.

laser therapy for pets

Fast, Gentle Relief for Pain and Inflammation

Laser therapy is a safe, non-invasive treatment that helps relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and speed up healing. It works by using specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cell regeneration and increase blood flow to affected areas. This helps the body repair tissue faster and decreases swelling, stiffness, and discomfort.

We include a laser treatment after every dental procedure to help your pet’s mouth feel better as quickly as possible. The light energy promotes faster healing of the gums, reduces post-procedure soreness, and minimizes inflammation so your pet can get back to eating, playing, and feeling like themselves sooner.

Laser therapy is quick, easy, painless, and affordable. Each session only takes a few minutes, and many pets find it relaxing. Beyond dental care, laser therapy can also benefit pets with arthritis, joint pain, wounds, ear infections, or post-surgical recovery.

If you’d like to learn more about how laser therapy can help your pet heal comfortably and naturally, we’d be happy to discuss it at your next visit.

microchips

A Simple Step That Can Bring Them Home
Every year, thousands of pets go missing — and many never make it back home because they don’t have any form of identification. Collars and tags can fall off or become unreadable, but a microchip provides a permanent, reliable way to identify your pet if they’re ever lost.
A microchip is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, that’s safely and painlessly inserted just under your pet’s skin, usually between the shoulder blades. It contains a unique ID number that can be scanned by veterinary clinics, shelters, and animal control officers. Once scanned, this number links to your contact information in a national database so your pet can be returned to you quickly.

Microchipping is quick, affordable, and lasts for your pet’s lifetime.
It’s especially important for pets that spend time outdoors or travel, but even indoor-only pets can benefit as accidents happen, and doors can be left open.
If your pet isn’t microchipped yet, or if you’re unsure whether their information is up to date, we can help.
A few minutes today can give you peace of mind for years to come.

Nail Care

 Why Nail Trimming Is Important

1. Prevents Pain and Discomfort

  • Overgrown nails can press into paw pads or twist the toes, making walking painful.

  • Long nails can cause the toes to splay or alter gait, putting strain on joints (especially in older pets).

2. Reduces Risk of Injury

  • Nails that are too long can catch on carpets or furniture, leading to painful breaks or tears.

  • Broken nails often bleed and can become infected if not treated properly.

3. Protects People and Furniture

  • Pets with sharp or long nails can scratch owners during play or cuddling.

  • Cats with long claws can damage furniture or fabric while stretching or scratching.

4. Supports Healthy Posture and Movement

  • Proper nail length allows dogs and cats to stand and move naturally.

  • Over time, long nails can affect balance, especially in elderly or arthritic pets.

5. Prevents Ingrown or Curling Nails

  • In cats or small dogs, neglected nails may curl into the paw pad, causing pain and infection.

parasite prevention

Parasites Are More Than a Nuisance—They’re a Serious Health Risk

There was a time when fleas, ticks, and worms were seen as minor annoyances. Today, we know better. Parasites can cause serious illness—and even death—in pets and can pose risks to your entire family.

  • Ticks can transmit Lyme disease and other dangerous infections.

  • Fleas spread tapeworms and Bartonella—the bacteria behind “cat-scratch fever” in humans.

  • Heartworms, transmitted by mosquitoes, invade the heart and lungs, often leading to severe damage or death.

  • Intestinal parasites like roundworms and hookworms can cause illness in pets and are also transmissible to humans.

The tricky part? Many parasites go undetected. Fleas and tiny ticks often hide in your pet’s coat, and internal parasites may not cause noticeable symptoms until significant damage is done.

We’re here to help you stay ahead of these threats.
With regular testing and a proactive prevention plan, you can protect your pet and your household from harmful parasites.

Our team offers:

  • Thorough parasite screenings

  • Tailored parasite prevention programs

  • Expert recommendations for flea, tick, and heartworm medications

  • Advice on parasite-proofing your home and yard

  • Treatment options when parasites are detected

Parasite prevention isn’t just about comfort—it’s about health, safety, and peace of mind. Let us help you create a comprehensive plan to keep your pet protected year-round.

Call today to schedule an exam or learn more about your options for parasite prevention and control.

spay - neuter

A Simple Choice That Makes a Big Difference

Spaying and neutering your pets is one of the most responsible decisions you can make as a pet owner. These routine procedures not only help control the pet population but also provide lasting health and behavioral benefits for your furry family members.

Health Benefits:

  • Prevents serious diseases: Spaying helps protect female pets from uterine infections and greatly reduces the risk of mammary (breast) cancer. Neutering males helps prevent testicular cancer and can lower the risk of prostate issues.

  • Promotes longer, healthier lives: Pets that are spayed or neutered often live longer, healthier lives thanks to reduced risk of certain cancers and infections.

  • Easier weight and hormone management: Spaying and neutering help balance hormones, reducing behaviors like marking and roaming that can lead to injury.

Behavioral Benefits:

  • Reduces roaming and aggression: Neutered males are less likely to wander in search of a mate or display dominance-related aggression.

  • Minimizes unwanted behaviors: Spaying and neutering can decrease behaviors such as mounting, urine marking, and yowling in females during heat.

  • Creates calmer companions: Many pets become more affectionate and focused once their hormone-driven urges are reduced.

Community Benefits:

  • Helps reduce overpopulation: Millions of unwanted pets end up in shelters each year. Spaying and neutering help prevent accidental litters and reduce the number of homeless animals in our community.

Spaying or neutering is a safe, common procedure that offers lifelong benefits for your pet’s health and happiness — and helps make a positive difference for pets everywhere.

Schedule your pet’s spay or neuter appointment today and take an important step toward a healthier future for your companion.

ultrasound -Echocardigrams

dvanced Imaging for Accurate Diagnosis

Ultrasound and Echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) technology allow us to see what’s happening inside your pet’s body without the need for invasive procedures. These imaging tools are vital in diagnosing a wide range of illnesses and monitoring ongoing health conditions.

Ultrasound uses sound waves to create real-time images of your pet’s internal organs. It helps our veterinarians assess the liver, kidneys, bladder, spleen, intestines, and other abdominal structures. This non-invasive test can detect issues such as tumors, cysts, bladder stones, fluid buildup, or internal inflammation that may not appear on X-rays.

Echocardiograms focus specifically on the heart. They allow us to evaluate heart function, measure blood flow, and detect conditions such as heart murmurs, valve disease, and congestive heart failure. This information is essential for creating the best treatment and management plan for pets with cardiac concerns.

Both procedures are safe, painless, and performed while your pet is awake or lightly sedated for comfort. They provide critical insight into your pet’s health and help guide medical decisions with precision.

If your pet has unexplained symptoms such as weight loss, vomiting, changes in appetite, coughing, or fatigue,

ultrasound or echocardiogram testing may help us find answers quickly and accurately.

Early diagnosis means earlier treatment and better outcomes.

Ask our team today if an ultrasound or echocardiogram could benefit your pet’s care plan.

urinary issues

Understanding the Causes and Finding Relief

Urinary problems are common in both dogs and cats and can cause discomfort, accidents in the house, or even more serious health concerns if left untreated. These issues may have a variety of underlying causes, ranging from infections to age-related changes.

One of the most common causes is a urinary tract infection (UTI), which can lead to frequent urination, straining, blood in the urine, or accidents indoors. However, urinary symptoms can also result from bladder stones, inflammation, or weak bladder muscles, especially as pets get older.

In senior pets, the bladder may weaken over time, leading to small leaks or incontinence. Fortunately, there are ways to help. Some prescription diets are formulated to promote urinary health, prevent crystal or stone formation, and support normal bladder function. Additionally, medications are available to help strengthen the bladder muscles and reduce leakage.

If your pet is showing signs of urinary discomfort—such as straining, frequent urination, licking the genital area, or accidents in the house—it’s important to schedule an exam. Our team can perform diagnostic tests, such as urinalysis or imaging, to determine the cause and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

With proper care, most urinary issues can be managed successfully, helping your pet stay comfortable and maintain a better quality of life.

Vaccines

Protecting Health, Preventing Disease, and Keeping Everyone Safe

Vaccinations are one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect your pet’s health. They help prevent serious—and sometimes deadly—diseases such as parvovirus, distemper, feline leukemia, and rabies. By keeping your pet up to date on vaccines, you’re not only protecting them but also helping to prevent the spread of contagious illnesses to other animals and even people.

Rabies vaccination is required by law for all dogs and cats. Rabies is a fatal virus that can spread to humans through bites or scratches, so keeping your pet’s rabies vaccine current is essential for both their safety and yours.

Other vaccines, such as those for distemper, parvovirus, bordetella (kennel cough), and feline respiratory diseases, are also highly recommended based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and risk factors.

Staying on schedule with vaccinations keeps your pet healthy, helps avoid costly treatments, and supports a longer, happier life. If you’re unsure which vaccines your pet needs, our team can create a personalized vaccination plan to keep them fully protected
