Dr. Asma Shah is a true example of the American Dream. Originally from Pakistan, she came to the United States with determination, resilience, and a heart full of compassion. Through years of hard work and dedication, she achieved her dream of opening her own veterinary practice, a place where personalized relationships, affordable care, and exceptional medicine come before corporate quotas.
Fresh out of veterinary school, Dr. Shah began her career at a large corporate veterinary practice. While the experience helped shape her as a clinician, it also showed her exactly the kind of veterinarian she wanted to become. She still laughs about getting into trouble for trimming a pet's single broken nail at no charge because, to her, helping patients should always come before the bottom line. That philosophy continues to guide every aspect of her practice today.
Dr. Shah earned her veterinary degree from the University of Veterinary Sciences in Pakistan and completed her clinical training at Iowa State University. She then spent 11 years practicing veterinary medicine in Indiana before bringing her vision to Florida. At Grand Oaks Pet Hospital, her goal is to provide high-quality, compassionate medicine in a warm, welcoming, and fear-free environment where both pets and their families feel comfortable and cared for.
She is especially passionate about being a true family veterinarian, helping pet owners navigate the joys and challenges of raising children and pets together. Dr. Shah believes in finding realistic, practical solutions that promote the health, safety, and happiness of every member of the family whether they have two legs or four.
Her professional interests include radiology, internal medicine, and dermatology. She is a proud member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
Outside the hospital, Dr. Shah enjoys spending time with her husband, Dr. Muhammad Malik, a kidney and hypertension specialist in Orlando, their two children, and their three beloved cats. When she's not caring for patients, you'll likely find her painting, enjoying time with family, or cheering on her favorite football team.
